Portuguese as a Second Language (Pre-K to Grade 9)
Overview
Beginners (Ages 4, 5, 6)
Children acquire basic communication skills. They are provided with the linguistic competence to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at meeting immediate needs in any part of the Portuguese-speaking world. They practice listening and speaking skills using various activities and games and relevant materials in order to start understanding the language in its cultural context and engage in short interactions.
Beginners (Ages 7, 8, 9)
They are provided with the linguistic competence to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at meeting immediate needs in any part of the Portuguese-speaking world. They learn how participate in conversations.
Beginners (Ages 10, 11, 12)
They are provided with the linguistic competence to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at meeting immediate needs in any part of the Portuguese-speaking world.
Intermediate (Ages 13-16)
At this level, the children continue to acquire more sophisticated grammatical structures, which allows them to handle more complicated conversations. While developing their language knowledge, the children also gain a better insight into the history and the cultural traditions of Portugal. They practice asking and answering questions and develop their comprehension and expressive skills.
